Thousands
of Filipino women from various sectors condemned the continuing
violation of women’s rights under the administration of Benigno "Noynoy"
Aquino III during this year's International Women’s Day protests in
Manila. They called for salary hikes for teachers and government
employees, rollback of oil prices, a moratorium on demolitions of urban
poor communities, and an end to US military intervention in the country,
among many other demands. They held a program at Plaza Miranda and
marched to Mendiola (Don Chino Roces) Bridge where they burned an effigy
to cap the day-long commemoration last March 8.
